Here's the last of the incubator covers that uses up the Easter bunny fabric. Last June I re-discovered the fabric in my stash and decided to make a series of little quilts that I could practice my machine quilting skills on. I've done
feathered borders,
feathered wreaths and fills and
modern quilting a la Angela Walters. I've leant a lot and had a lot of fun, but I'm glad this fabric is all gone now!

I took some of the centre elements into the borders via the quilting which were then quilted with large pebbles and straight lines.

I repeated the pebbles in some of the narrow strips and played with stacking the brackets in others. The overall fill for the negative space is called Flower Power from Angela Walters book Free-Motion Quilting. I wasn't sure about it, but it does make a great texture :)
My goodness that is quite the pretty quilting sampler that you have created! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteHelen, your use of beautiful and distinct quilting stitches, in addition to the fabrics, absolutely inspire me! I am brand new to quilting, just starting my first projects, and was wondering about making the quilting more interesting by doing different designs on the same piece, instead of the traditional "blend it into the background" techniques that are common. I can see advantages to both. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI found you via a comment link on Christina's blog about the DD9's.
