I decided to quilt random chain squares on the background fabric. They allowed me to fit the spaces well and tied in with the box theme of the quilt design. The 1" blue box borders were stitched with a 3-step zig-zag stitch on my Janome 6500 machine. I got the idea from a post by CrazyMomQuilts where she uses the stitch to quilt her whole quilt.
Along the alphabet squares I free-motioned the letters that apply to each row. Quilting cursive handwriting at a 90 degree angle to normal, really concentrates the mind on how letters are formed! I love how this quilt turned out.Quilt pattern inspired by A Quilting Jewel on Flickr.

ReplyDeleteWonderful! This is definitely on my to do list--hopefully sooner rather than later. Love the quilting motif you chose.
